Nancy Morganstern Memorial Race; New and Improved Jerseys; Israeli Independence Bike Day

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

An Oy Velo cult member pointed out that there is a sanctioned memorial race in honor of Nancy Morganstern at Bear Mt, NY. Nancy was a racing cyclist who died on 9/11. For more about Nancy, click here:
http://nancymorgensternmemorial.org/book_intro.html

In happier news, Oy Velo has given into peer pressure and has minimized the size of the adorable Oy Velo mascot. The new jersey is available on the site now.

Finally, tomorrow is Israeli Independence Day! You’ll note it coincides with Bike Month. Coincidence? I think not. Happy Israeli Independence Bike Day.

Jerseys and Saul Raisin

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The jersey design is up! Buy yours today to reserve your size. They are $65 each plus $5 shipping and handling if you live outside Tampa, Florida.

More importantly, Oy Velo just realized that Saul Raisin of Credit Agricole is Jewish. I’m stalking him starting now.

Yehuda Gershony

Monday, May 5th, 2008

The owner of the professional team Kelly Benefit Strategies (who is Jewish), advised me of Yehuda Gershony, an Israeli citizen who raced professionally for Gianni Motta and Skil-Reydel in 1984. He rode with Sean Kelly and Jonathan Boyer on the Skil-Reydel team. If anyone has any additional information about this rider, I’d love to include him on Oy Velo. So far, Oy Velo has not been successful contacting riders residing outside of the North American continent, but I’ll give it a shot.

Jerseys

Apparently, I lied about the jersey design being ready to post today. The Louis Garneau art department is making a few edits to the design, which should be ready to view tomorrow.

Hazon NYC 2008

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

A few cult members have advised Oy Velo of the Hazon organization, which organizes rides in New York City and Israel each year to raise money for charity. The NYC ride is August 29, 2008 through September 1, 2008. The ride looks like it’s fun, and for a great cause. Please checkout the details and contact Oy Velo if you are interested in putting together a team.

Also, Leah Goldstein has WON the Tour of the Gila stage race. Congratulations!

More updates. . .

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Leah Goldstein placed 2nd in The Tour of the Gila stage race. She has extended her GC lead to 2:19.

Oy Velo’s latest interview is with Peter Zheutlin, author of “Around The World On Two Wheels.” The book tells the story of a Jewish housewife and mother who became the first woman to ride a bicycle around the world. The book, and the interview, are must reads.

Last but not least, he jersey will be posted next week (I’m serious this time).

Oy Velo Updates

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

A great week in Jewish athletics, behold. . .

Ryan Levinson won his division at St. Anthony’s Triathlon. Congratulations, even though that sport is 2/3 crazy.

Leah Goldstein won stage 1 of The Tour of the Gila stage race. She is the GC leader by 28 seconds. Check back daily for updates.

In other news. . .

Oy Velo recently interviewed The Adventure Rabbi.

The jersey design should be posted tomorrow or Monday.
